What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive alternative therapy that involves stimulating certain reflex points on the feet, for which treatment is undertaken holistically. As reflexology treats the person, and not just their symptoms, the therapy has shown to be useful in many different cases.
Reflexology can be used to treat many different conditions
People with conditions such as stress, anxiety, insomnia and sleep problems, migraines and headaches, hormonal imbalances and PMT, menopause, neck/back/joint pain, circulation problems, digestion problems, constipation and IBS have benefited from having regular reflexology treatments. This list is not exhaustive and if you are considering reflexology for any reason please get in touch and we can discuss how it may benefit you.
Subfertility and reflexology
As there is no doubt that stress can play a significant factor in an individual’s ability to conceive (the link between prolonged stress and endocrine function is evidenced by women experiencing disruption to their periods during times of stress), more so the longer they have been trying, reflexology can also be of great benefit to both male and female clients with subfertility issues.
Pregnancy and reflexology
Reflexology is becoming more and more popular during pregnancy. Expectant mothers can find reflexology extremely helpful in dealing with such symptoms of pregnancy as morning sickness and nausea, headaches, digestive problems, swollen legs/ankles, lack of sleep and loss of bladder control. There is also anecdotal evidence to suggest that reflexology can help to prime labour, providing both mother and baby are ready. In addition, some clients who have received regular reflexology treatments throughout their pregnancy report a shorter labour.
Testimonial
"I always thought that reflexology was all about a relaxing foot rub, that would give you a nice overall feeling of well being and basically remove some of the stresses of the day. I wasn’t entirely wrong – the work Helen did with me was certainly relaxing, but I had no idea how much is really involved and the extent to which the practice can benefit your health. When I first came to Helen, I was struggling with very irregular periods and was sceptical that this would help. Within a few sessions, and without any other form of additional medicine or witch craft, my body began to regulate its cycle – and better still……I fell pregnant!" Tanja, SE London
